'Invasion Day' Marchers Hit Melbourne Streets on Australia Day

Thousands gathered in Melbourne on Australia Day, January 26, to mark ‘Invasion Day’.

Australia Day marks the date in 1788 when Captain Arthur Phillip raised the flag of Great Britain in Port Jackson, NSW, and proclaimed a colonial outpost of the British Empire.

But some Australians instead commemorate the date as an invasion by British settlers.
