U.S. Urges China To Release Detained Canadians

According to a report by Reuters, on Friday, the United States urged Beijing to release two Canadians detained in what many have called tit-for-tat arrests following the high-profile arrest of an executive from a major Chinese corporation in Canada.

Last week, two Canadians, a businessman and a former diplomat, were detained in China after Canadian police arrested Huawei Technologies CFO, Meng Wanzhou, on December first.

Reuters reports that The United States is looking to extradite Meng on charges of misleading multinational banks regarding Iran-linked transactions, putting the banks at risk of violating U.S. sanctions.
