Southwest is the latest airline making it possible to stay in touch at 35,000 feet with free in-flight messaging.????Messaging on the airline works with iMessage and WhatsApp, but passengers must have these pre-installed on their devices, according to USA Today.????The free messaging service isn’t available on all Southwest flights at the moment.????The airline says passengers can check Southwest’s in-flight entertainment portal on their device to see if free messaging is available on their flight.????If not, it’s $2 per day, per device; the same price it’s been since 2013, CNBC reports.????For a bit more, passengers who buy the airline’s $8 Wi-Fi get messaging included, plus web browsing, email and social media, but not video streaming, according to Travel + Leisure.????Southwest isn’t the first to offer free messaging.????Alaska Airlines was the first U.S. carrier to offer free messaging in early 2017, USA Today reports.????Delta followed suit with free messaging on Wi-Fi equipped flights, and a United spokesperson tells USA Today the airline has free messaging on some aircraft and is looking at expanding the service throughout the fleet.
