With better battery life and a massive first-of-its-kind one terabyte of memory, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 unveiled Thursday is going after a whole new league of customers... gamers.

The Note 9 will be the first Android phone to support Fortnight - the massively popular online survival game.

It marks a change in tactic - as the so-called phablet attempts to lure in younger gamers.

And with good reason, says Reuters correspondent Heekyong Yang: (SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS CORRESPONDENT HEEKYONG YANG, SAYING: "Samsung is competing with Apple, which has a strong fanbase on one end, and Chinese vendors like Hwawei, xiaomi, vivo which have strong marketing plans and good enough products to compete with Samsung on the other end." That competitive squeeze caused Samsung's slowest profit growth in more than a year... and weaker-than-expected sales for the flagship Galaxy S9 last quarter.

CNET executive editor, Roger Cheng: (SOUNDBITE) (English) CNET EXECUTIVE EDITOR, ROGER CHENG, SAYING: "Samsung Galaxy Note 9 represents a modest improvement over last year's model.

The most marquee feature is the big battery.

It supposed to make sure that will last all day long.

But, if you look at them, if you look through the features, there aren't really a lot that kind of jumps out at you that necessarily shows that it's a big, big upgrade.

The other concerning thing is, it starts at $1000.

That's right where the iPhone 10 is, but it's a pretty jaw-dropping price point." The device is set to hit stores August 24th.
