Court Rules TSA Screeners Immune From Flier Abuse Claims
Screeners for the Transportation Security Administration are officially off the hook.
Reuters reports that TSA screeners have won immunity from flier abuse claims. A federal appeals court ruled that screeners are immune from such claims. This under a federal law governing assaults, false arrests and other abuses.
In a 2-1 vote, the court said TSA screeners are shielded by government sovereign immunity Largely because they do not function as “investigative or law enforcement officers.” This means travelers may not win damages for invasive screenings at airport security checkpoints.
