FDA Supports Epilepsy from Marijuana

Wochit - April 17, 2018

Staff members at the FDA have approved an experimental drug for treating seizures caused by tow forms of epilepsy.

According to a briefing document by the Food and Drug Administration, the drug is derived from marijuana.

But the experimental medication has virtually no psychoactive substances associated with marijuana, like the compound THC.

Instead, the drug uses a compound called CBD to treat children afflicted with Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Known as epidiolex, the drug reduces the frequency of seizures for patients in three clinical trials.
