Supreme Court Rules Against Immigration Provision

Wochit - April 17, 2018

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has sided with his liberal colleagues in a landmark decision on deportations.

Gorsuch, a conservative, was nominated by President Donald Trump, and is the court's most recent addition.

Breaking the tie with a 5-to-4 decision, Gorsuch found that a clause within a federal law allowing the deportation of foreigners is unconstitutional, because it is too vague.

The law allows for federal authorities to deport foreigners found guilty of a 'crime of violence.'

But Justice Gorsuch said that vague wording leaves judges to their intuitions and the people to their fate, adding that the Constitution demands more.
