Wochit - April 17, 2018

According to a report by Gizmodo, a new initiative from 23 and Me is offering funding and support to scientists who work in communities that have been underrepresented in genetic research.

Gizmodo reports that 23andMe will fund research that will help increase the diversity of genetic data in biomedical research, and in return scientists will provide 23andMe with DNA info to help make its ancestry reports more accurate for customers.

Senior director of research Joanna Mountain said in an interview with Gizmodo, "It’s a win-win.

We get access to the genetic data and so do the researchers.”
