Philippine Government To Deploy Riot Police To Enforce Boracay Shutdown

According to a report by CNN, the Philippine government has announced that it will deploy dozens of riot police to ensure that tourists do not interfere with a scheduled six-month cleanup of Boracay island, a popular destination.

Chief Superintendent Cesar Binag told journalists that the government will deploy over 600 police officers following the island's closure on April 26th, adding a 138-strong 'crowd dispersal unit' to the tropical paradise's regular force.

Binag said that the officers were meant to prevent disturbances, while also laying out contingency plans for the threat of potential protests, kidnappings and bombings.
