A week is not only a long time in politics, it’s a long time in news full stop – and while we aim to bring you the biggest stories on the planet as and when they occur, some big stories may have passed you by completely! Here’s our pick of this week’s big stories – many of which we wouldn’t have had a clue about a week ago!

Driverless Taxis Are Coming
Waymo – launched by Google’s parent company Alphabet – is set to emerge on a public trial basis in the months to come, allowing ride-hailers to catch a taxi back and forth without a driver in control. It’s a brave move that was only revealed this week – and one beleaguered firm Uber will do well to fight back against.

Three More Star Wars Movies
Yes – as if you haven’t had your fill of space opera over the past few years, the weekend has opened up with news that director Rian Johnson will be helming a new trilogy of Star Wars flicks set to focus on new characters and entirely new stories – could it be a soft reboot?

British Royals Impacted in Off-Shore Tax Scandal
The financial affairs of both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles came under scrutiny this week as it emerged they may both have had respective dealings in off-shore tax havens. Both schemes are legal – but questions are still being asked, and rightly so, in the British press.

Hollywood Sex Scandals Continue
Despite the Paradise Papers having dominated much of the news this week, continuing allegations against stars such as celebrated Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey and comedian Louis CK have dominated US entertainment news. Spacey has been removed completely from an upcoming film , replaced by Christopher Plummer – while CK has seen a lucrative contract with HBO fall apart following sexual misconduct claims.

Trump Visits China – Without Incident?
Finally, it’s emerged that US President Trump has made what Chinese media have termed a successful pilgrimage to Beijing this week – meaning that the statesman could well be on the way to closing ties with the colossal Eastern superpower.
