Merkel calls on Britain to respond to EU's Brexit proposals

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday said she welcomed the European Commission's proposals to break a deadlock in Brexit negotiations by providing legal clarity on the backstop solution, adding that Britain now had to respond.

UK Brexit minister: no time to 'rerun old arguments' on Irish backstop
According to Reuters, Britain’s Brexit minister Stephen Barclay said now was not the time to rerun old arguments, in response to proposals put forward by the chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier on the contentious Irish backstop. Barclay tweeted on Friday, β€œWith a very real deadline looming, now is not the time to rerun old arguments. The UK has put forward clear new proposals. We now need to agree a balanced solution that can work for both sides.”
