Ever imagined reading about former US President Barack Obama busting up some criminals with a shotgun to hand? Despite his reported charisma, Obama perhaps wasn’t ready to dump his professional image in the name of going all-out badass – but when it comes to the world of fan fiction, anything is possible, and certainly when it comes to one of the most media-friendly commanders-in-chief in recent years. While Bill Clinton may have helped James Patterson to write a best-selling novel (‘The President is Missing’) in recent months, and while Obama may have himself penned memoirs and his own thoughts on world politics and his definition of peace, it’s now time for the Prez to star in his own action adventure – in a marvellously madcap book called ‘Hope Never Dies’.

Andrew Schaffer is the author responsible for creating a new action movie scenario for Obama and his VP, Joe Biden, to get stuck into. In the novel, the pair are a mystery-busting duo – a Holmes and a Watson, if you will – and at 300 pages, it’s hardly a joke publication. If anything, it appears to be a labor of love – and it may help to soothe those who miss Obama’s presence at the White House. Who’s to say if his adventures in this book secretly mirror those of his life post-retirement? Schaffer is a noted satirist, though his latest novel is less about lampoon, and more about crafting an out-and-out adventure.

“It’s not a parody of action movies or thrillers, and it’s not a satire of their politics,” affirms Schaffer. “It’s just a mystery novel starring these two well-known characters who just happen to be in the public domain.”

Barack Obama and Joe Biden Team Up to Fight Crime in New Novel

Following Obama and Biden across a number of epic adventures – involving uncovering corrupt cops, drug barons and more besides, the novel promises to be a rip-roaring riot full of all the well-loved action movie twists and turns you might otherwise see on the big screen – only, it’s Obama and Biden taking them on. It all sounds a little ridiculous – but in this day and age, it’s more than welcome. Fan fiction used to purely be consigned to the internet – and now, thanks to the ongoing fascination surrounding the pair (despite them having left office), it only makes sense that a badass story about them both makes its way to bookshelves. Is it starting a trend?
