Yes – there really doesn’t seem to be a day that goes by in the news these days without the topic of Brexit coming back into focus. With the UK set to leave the European Union as of the end of March next year, time is ticking to solidify a deal that appeals to as many people as possible. However, Prime Minister Theresa May has struggled in the past few months to put across ideas of her own that even her own party can get behind – and this week, it seems she has faced a further onslaught with regard to the progress of Brexit from a number of sources.

According to BBC News, May’s government was found in contempt of Parliament on Tuesday after it was ruled that ministers should in fact have published full legal advice that they received with regard to the Brexit process. Furthermore, MPs have also pushed to have a direct say in what happens next should May’s Brexit proposals fail to pass through Parliament on December 11th. The other huge development on the Brexit front is that, according to the EU’s top law officer, Article 50 can be revoked. Article 50 was the statute which led to the UK starting the Brexit process – and while this advice does not have to be followed by law, it may give some MPs who are worried about a no-deal scenario a chance to back out of Brexit altogether.

The recent public blows to both May’s own credibility and the Brexit process are just the latest in a long line of headline-grabbing events which have stirred up an already fairly tense pot. There are continuing to be rumblings over whether or not a second referendum on Brexit should be honored, though this will remain to be seen once May’s Brexit deal comes to parliamentary opinion on December 11th. Most sources – including those who have broken down May’s chances MP by MP – seem to suggest that the deal will be blocked. This, by general accounts, will mean either a no-deal situation, or could even mean stopping Brexit altogether – via second referendum or otherwise.

There’s no telling quite where Brexit will end – the opinion of the people may not have changed with regard to how they feel about the EU, but the way in which this divorce has been handled may well have changed a few opinions on how well the British government is dealing with the pressure.
