9,600 cases in a day, India’s daily count world’s 3rd highest

India’s daily number of new Covid-19 cases crossed 9,000 for the first time when 9,651 fresh infections were reported on Thursday along with 270 fatalities, the joint-highest death toll from the virus in a single day. With infections rising steadily, India reported the world’s third highest number of new cases in a single day on Wednesday, when the country’s count of 8,723 cases was higher than Russia’s (8,536).
