Wall Street rallies on trade deal hopes, focus shifts to Trump-Liu meeting

Wall Street rose for the third straight session on Friday, with hopes running high that the talks between President Donald Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He would culminate in a partial trade deal and delay planned U.S. tariff increases.

Market Wrap: Trade Talks Hit Speed Bump Before They Even Begin
U.S. stocks sold off into the close Wednesday after Reuters reported that Chinese officials are lowering their expectations for the trade talks with the U.S. that are slated to begin on Thursday. Beijing is not happy with the U.S. government's blacklisting of 28 different companies ahead of the talks. Wall Street was trading strongly higher on optimism that a deal could be struck between the two countries, but the report sent stocks tumbling into the close. However, the news broke so late that the late selloff was muted and all three major indices closed the day solidly in the green. The threat is in futures trading Thursday morning with a possible overhang into the intraday session that begins at 9:30 AM ET.
