General Motors to make 30,000 ventilators to aid in coronavirus crisis

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said it has awarded a $489.4 million contract to General Motors Co. to make 30,000 ventilators. It's the first contract awarded for ventilators under the Defense Production Act (DPA), which was invoked by President Trump last month to force American industries to produce more medical supplies, including the creation of additional ventilators that are used in hospitals to treat critical coronavirus patients.
