Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency in Charlottesville, VA after the alt-right, white nationalists making up the “Unite the Right” rally at Emancipation Park dissolved into a hellish, chaotic scene. McAuliffe tweeted, “Governor McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency to aid state response to violence at Alt-Right rally in Charlottesville.” This decision frees up the state police and state National Guard to respond.
