According to French media reports, the gunman who shot three police officers along the famed Champs Élysées was a French national. Local media identified the citizen as Karim Cheurfi. The 39-year-old attacked two officers waiting at a red light with an assault rifle before police returned fire and killed him. A French newspaper added that he was considered to be an excessively dangerous man by security services, having served 15-years in jail for the attempted murder of police officers. He came under investigation last month for posting about his desire to kill police on social media.
