No Terror Plots Detected Ahead of Vice President Pence's Visit, Say Police

Storyful Studio - Friday, 21 April 2017
On Friday, April 21, NSW Police advised there was no intelligence to suggest Australia was the subject of a terror plot ahead of a visit by US Vice President Mike Pence or of Anzac Day.In a press conference, Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command’s assistant commissioner, Mark Murdoch, said residents could expect some delays or disruptions to their travel across Sydney during Pence’s visit, which will see him stop in Mosman, Kirribilli and the CBD. “We will have many resources deployed over the course of the vice president’s visit,” he said. “Some of our tactical people will be out and about right across the footprint of the CBD, they will be highly visible and mobile.” Clearways would be put in place from 10am on April 21 until 10am on Monday, April 24, and the public was urged to check for advice before using public transport over the weekend. Pence was scheduled to arrive on Friday night and was scheduled to meet with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Governor General, among others. Roads would be closed to make way for his motorcade. In response to questioning, Commissioner Murdoch said there was “no intelligence to indicate that there is a specific threat to Anzac Day ceremonies in Australia, or overseas for that matter, but again, like the visit of the vice president this is something that NSW Police force are very well practised at.” Credit: NSW Police Force via Storyful
