At the Louvre on Monday, donors gathered at a conference aimed at building an international fund to protect cultural heritage sites threatened by war and destruction at the hands of Islamic State militants. The organizers of the event aim to raise tens of millions of dollars to not only prevent the destruction of historical sites, but also to create a global network of locations to temporarily store endangered artifacts and pay for the restoration of sites already damaged by war.
